I'm Jessica Cortés, the founder and designer behind Mod North & Co., where I channel my passion for interior design into creating distinctive, handcrafted pieces for the eclectic modern boho home.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from Mount Mary University, I enjoyed a fulfilling 13-year career in commercial design, working on diverse projects across corporate, educational, healthcare, and government sectors. In 2012, after welcoming our first child, I chose to pause my professional journey to embrace the role of a stay-at-home mother. This period allowed me to nurture our growing family, which soon expanded with the birth of our second child.
The desire to reconnect with my creative roots led me to open my first Etsy shop, SoLoMarket, specializing in vintage home décor. A serendipitous find—a vintage agate clock with a mesmerizing aquamarine hue—sparked a new venture. After restoring and listing it, the piece garnered unexpected attention when featured on Etsy's front page in March 2016, leading to its swift sale and numerous inquiries. This experience ignited the idea of crafting modern agate desk clocks, blending natural elegance with contemporary design.
In 2017, Mod North & Co. was born, expanding our offerings to include agate wall clocks, exclusive garlands, dreamcatchers, and dimensional wall art. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in our Wisconsin studio, using premium, ethically sourced Brazilian agate and collaborating with small U.S. businesses for top-quality components. Our commitment to artistry and individuality ensures that every creation resonates with character and charm, transforming your space into a sanctuary of self-expression.
Beyond the studio, I cherish my role as a homeschooling mother of five, alongside my Marine veteran husband, in the picturesque lake country of Oconomowoc, WI. Our values of faith, family, and freedom guide our journey, as we strive to raise thoughtful, civic-minded children who appreciate the beauty of our great nation.
