Is Homeschooling Right for You? Find Out!

Here’s What I Wish Someone Had Told Me

If you’ve landed here, chances are there’s already a little voice inside you asking:
“Could homeschooling work for us?”

Maybe it’s a whisper.
Maybe it’s a full-on shout after a frustrating school year.

Either way, I see you. Because I’ve been there, too.

A Little Backstory…

In the summer of 2020, I made the choice to pull three of our five kids from public school. It wasn’t because I had it all figured out. (Spoiler: I didn’t.) It was because I started to realize that the kind of education I wanted for them—the kind that honors curiosity, freedom, creativity, and connection—wasn’t something I could outsource anymore.

So I dove in. With nerves and excitement and a lot of library books.

Homeschooling isn’t one-size-fits-all. But if you’re wondering whether it could be right for you, here are some gentle questions, truths, and encouragement to help you find your own answer.

First: The Real Talk

Homeschooling is not:

  • Just replicating school at your kitchen table
  • For “supermoms” with infinite patience (bless them, but no)
  • All sunshine, crafts, and cozy reading nooks

It can be messy, hard, and sometimes lonely.
But it can also be healing, beautiful, and ridiculously freeing.

Is Homeschooling Right for You?

Here’s What to Ask Yourself:

✨ Do I want more flexibility in our days?

No more school bell schedules or permission slips. Homeschooling gives you the freedom to shape your family’s rhythm around what works for you. Slow mornings, nature walks, road-schooling—it’s all on the table.

✨ Do I believe learning happens outside of classrooms?

Kids learn everywhere. In the kitchen. In the backyard. On museum trips and library floors and while building forts out of couch cushions. If that excites you, homeschooling might just be your jam.

✨ Can I let go of the idea of “doing it perfectly”?

Homeschooling isn’t about being a flawless teacher—it’s about being a present parent. You don’t need all the answers. You just need to be willing to learn alongside your kids.

✨ Am I craving deeper connection with my children?

This one hits deep. Homeschooling doesn’t just change how your kids learn—it changes how you live together. It gives space for more conversations, more shared moments, and more understanding.

✨ Can I trust that every family’s path is different?

Comparison will steal your joy faster than a toddler with a permanent marker. Homeschooling looks different for everyone—and that’s the beauty of it. You get to build your version of success.

You Don’t Need to Decide Everything Right Now

Seriously. You don’t have to commit to forever. You don’t need a five-year curriculum plan. You don’t need matching desks.

You just need a willingness to explore.
To say: “Maybe there’s another way.”

So… Is It Right for You?

Only you can answer that. But if something about homeschooling has tugged at your heart—even just a little—it’s okay to follow that pull. You can start small. You can change your mind. You can do it your own way.

Just know that if you do choose this path, you’re not alone. There’s a beautiful community of families—mine included—cheering you on.

✨ From one parent to another: you’re already doing something extraordinary by even asking this question.

Whatever you choose… you’re showing up. And that’s everything. 💛
